‘Sunset Music Fest at the Tip of Borneo’ at Tg Simpang Mengayau on June 29 and 30


KOTA KINABALU: ‘Sunset Music Fest at the Tip of Borneo’ is set to enthrall the audience with a great performance lineup for two days on June 29 and 30, at Tanjung Simpang Mengayau, Kudat

The event jointly organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Sabah Tourism Board and Tourism Sri Sabah Sdn Bhd, is the largest outdoor performance event in Sabah where the audience will be entertained to a variety of music and songs being performed while watching a panoramic sunset.

“This musical festival line-up features performances of local musicians, as welasl foreign musicians, in bringing together the various types of music, including local classical and contemporary music,” said Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Bolkiah Haji Ismail, at the ‘Sunset Music Fest at The Tip of Borneo‘ press conference held at the Horizon Hotel, here, yesterday.

Artists and musicians who will be performing are Safinaz Selamat, Jesselton Philharmonic Orchestra, Jackfruit (Sabah’s pop-jazz group), Rhythm of Borneo, Akiuku Orchestra, Fabian William, Madnazir Madillah, Esther Applunius, Roger Wang & Friends and Fauziah Gambus.

Speaking about the location, Bolkiah said, Tanjung Simpang Mengayau, Kudat or better known as the ‘Tip of Borneo’ is the northern most area of Borneo and the point where the South China Sea merges with the Sulu Sea. A panoramic view of the sunset, immaculate white sandy stretches of the beach, tranquil blue sea water has heightened this area’s reputation as a must-visit tourist attraction in Sabah, he said.

”Kudat area itself has been developed as a famous tourist destination where various attractions and activities has been commercialized such as traditional long houses, beautiful stretches of beaches, planting of coconut trees, industry producing honey and manufacturing of gong musical instrument is testament to a heritage rich in history and culture in the district of Kudat,“ said Bolkiah.

Meanwhile, the audience to the music festival, who would spend the night there, need not have to worry about accommodation as there are many accommodation options, including chalets on the beach, luxury villas and modern hotels available that will ensure their comfort, he said

So, he said, coming to this music festival is an all-inclusive package that would benefit the visitor because other than musical festival offerings, they can also vacation in Kudat by visiting a variety of interesting locations around the district.
