KUCHING: The 6th Joint Gawai Kaamatan Celebration dinner to be held here on June 23 will be the grandest ever, said its organising chairman Datuk Sri Celestine Ujang.
“Many programmes to highlight the Dayak cultures and tradition and that of the Kadazandusuns have been included for the evening.
“Among the items will be the parading of Unduk Ngadau (Kadazandusun beauty queens) and a display of ‘Dayak Specials’ by the Dayak Kumangs,” he said yesterday.
He also said the Head of State Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhammad Salahuddin will be invited to the ‘Ngerebah Ke Ranyai’ which is the highlight of the dinner.
Ethnika Orchestra will entertain guests with a potpourri of traditional music and songs from both the Land Below the Wind and the Land of Hornbills, he added.
Yesterday, Ujang who is also Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) deputy president and members of the organising committee paid a courtesy call on the Head of State at his residence.
