Air Asia will move to Terminal 1 KKIA

KOTA KINABALU: The government has stuck to its decision to shift the operation of Air Asia to Kota Kinabalu International (KKIA) Airport or Terminal 1.

Deputy Transportation Minister Datuk Lajim Ukin however said that his office is still open to negotiations with the company concerned before making a final decision.

“As far as possible, we want them to shift their operation but because of their needs, they don’t want to do so. We from time to time will discuss with them,” said Lajim at a press conference after launching the School Warden Traffic Program at SK St. Agnes in Likas yesterday.

Prior to this, Lajim had proposed the operation of Air Asia to shift to Terminal 1 to overcome the traffic congestion problem at the LCCT. However Lajim’s suggestion to shift the operation after the upgrading project at KKIA scheduled to be completed in May next year, were opposed by Air Asia.
