Parks for Visit Sibu Year upgrade

SIBU: At least four parks here with unique features have been identified for the coming Visit Sibu Year (VSY) 2016.

In disclosing this, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairman Dato Andrew Wong said unique features here would mean having touristic attractions.

“After a dialogue with tour operators here recently, we identified several parks, namely Sibu Town Square Phase 2, Kutien Memorial Park, Sibu Rajang Esplanade and Sungei Merah Heritage Walk,” Wong told The Borneo Post.

He was asked on the number of parks here that have been identified for the big tourism draw next year.

He also disclosed that tour operators had given feedback, as in one case where their tour buses could not enter the parking area of Kutien Memorial Park at Bukit Lima Road here.

This was due to the winding road, he noted, adding that they were looking into improving that particular aspect.

Asked on upgrading of the internal park itself, he said they would need to work with Kutien Association to look into the matter.

“There are a certain number of tourist attractions here that we are looking to upgrade,” he said.

Wong recalled he had mentioned before that he would be most happy if the parks under the different associations could approach the council if they wished for upgrade.

“They can always come to talk with SMC and we can work together towards improving it,” he said.
